Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
Travel and Ground Transport

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - PA, USA)

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is a busy facility and as such, it boasts a well developed ground transportation infrastructure.

Serving not only the city of Philadelphia itself, ground transport at the airport also connects many suburbs and outlying destinations, such as Ardmore, Camden, Cherry Hill, Claymot, Lansdale, Norristown, Trenton, Vineland, Wilmington and Woodbury. Onsite are many affordable car rental options, together with taxi cabs and train services, which are available directly outside of the main baggage reclaim areas.

Trains at Philadelphia Airport are operated by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). The SEPTA R1 high-speed rail service runs from each of the five terminal buildings and travels into the very heart of Philadelphia - a journey time of around 20 minutes. Trains depart every 30 minutes, between 06:00 and midnight, stopping at Eastwick Station, 30th Street Station, Penn Center Suburban Station, Market East and the University City. Train routes include:

  • AMTRAK rail terminal - to 30th Street Station
  • Greyhound bus terminal - to Market East and Gallery Station
  • Pennsylvania Convention Center - to Market East and the Gallery Station
  • Philadelphia city center - to Penn Center Suburban station

Shuttle buses

Shuttles run daily at regular intervals and are particularly cheap way to travel into the city and connect with Greyhound buses. The Ground Transportation Center is on hand should you require and further information about the resident shuttle bus companies.

Taxi Cabs

Taxis at PHL are readily available 24 hours a day, from Zone 5 (Commercial Transportation Roadway), traveling into central Philadelphia in approximately 20 minutes, depending upon traffic levels. The majority of taxi cabs can accommodate three passengers, although some are larger. A flat rate is applicable if you are heading to the city centre, which is classed as being bounded by South Street, Fairmount Avenue, 38th Street and the Delaware River. Shared-ride vans are also available and particularly economical, since you share the cost of your journey with the other passengers.

Limousines / Sedans

There are numerous car limousine companies based at Philadelphia Airport, being accessible from Zone 6 and Zone 7. Choose between AAA Airport One Direct, American Limos, the Atlantic Sedan Service, Dave's Best Limo, and the Pennywise Sedan Service.
